My Background

Knowledge is not skill. Knowledge plus ten thousand times is skill.

Shinichi Suzuki

I have been teaching for 25 years and have a passion for music whether it be teaching, performing, or research. I hold a Master of Music degree from the University of Ottawa and an ARCT piano pedagogy diploma (piano teacher) from the Royal Conservatory of Music. I teach children and adults as well as more advanced students who wish to prepare conservatory exams. I am a registered music teacher and member of the Quebec Music Teachers’ Association.

Originally from northern Ontario, Diane Briscoe moved to France where she studied piano and accompanied ballet at the “Conservatoire régional de Lorient” for several years. Upon returning to Canada she completed an Associate of The Royal Conservatory (ARCT) in piano pedagogy, as well as a Master of Music at the University of Ottawa, receiving several bursaries and awards.

Diane has trained with and observed classes of numerous Suzuki pedagogues including Bruce Anderson, Carole Bigler, Mary Craig Powell, Doris Leland Harrel, Merlin Thompson, and Valery Watts. Her articles on piano pedagogy have been published in several journals, including the Music Educators Journal  and was invited to present this paper in Dalian, China, for World Education Day in 2017.

Diane was a founding faculty member and Treasurer of the Piano Association Ottawa/Gatineau with whom she maintained a thriving piano teaching studio for over twenty years.  In 2020 she relocated to Deux-Montagnes. In addition to piano she plays viola in "L’Orchestre symphonique des Basses-Laurentides" and is a certified piano teacher and member of the Quebec Music Teachers’ Association.
