Suzuki Method

Where love is deep much can be accomplished

Shinichi Suzuki

Dr. Suzuki’s method has been adapted for many instruments around the world.

Some principles:

  • every child can learn

  • early beginning encouraged

  • “mother tongue” – an aural approach to music learning

  • listening to recordings of the pieces the child is playing can enhance musicality, rate of progress, and motivation

  • parental participation is much appreciated

  • students learn to read music

  • the curriculum is carefully planned

  • students receive plenty of positive reinforcement

  • Suzuki Association of the Americas – About the Suzuki Method

  • Here is a 4.5-minute animated Ted-Ed video showing How playing an instrument benefits your brain.
